What Is a Good Spiti Valley Itinerary for Nature Lovers ?
If you're someone who finds joy in silence, starry skies, and raw Himalayan landscapes, Spiti Valley is where you need to be. Known for its ancient monasteries, sky-touching villages, and glacier-fed rivers, it’s a rare place that feels untouched — and it stays with you long after the trip ends. Here’s an 8-day itinerary crafted for nature lovers that includes cultural depth, offbeat views, and smooth transitions between stops — making it perfect for families, first-timers, and peaceful explorers alike.
Day 1: Shimla to Narkanda — Hills, Forests & Hidden Lakes
Start your trip with a comfortable overnight Volvo from Delhi or Chandigarh to Shimla. Once in Shimla, you’ll be driven through pine-covered slopes to Narkanda, a small mountain town known for its fresh air and apple orchards. Depending on arrival time, we’ll explore Hatu Peak, offering sweeping Himalayan views, and visit the tranquil Tani Jubbar Lake nearby — a quiet place perfect for short walks and photography.
Stay: Narkanda
Day 2: Narkanda to Chitkul via Sarahan – Into the Kinnaur Region
Leave after breakfast and trace the scenic Indo-Tibet Highway towards Chitkul, the last village before the Indo-China border. Along the way, stop at the ancient Bhimakali Temple in Sarahan — one of the most sacred shrines in Himachal. Pass through Kinnaur Gate, a popular photo point, and drive alongside deep gorges and rivers. Reach Chitkul by evening to catch the golden hour by the Baspa River.
Stay: Chitkul or Sangla
Day 3: Chitkul to Nako — River Valleys & Confluences
Enjoy a calm morning in Chitkul, surrounded by wooden houses and views of snow-peaked mountains. Post breakfast, continue the drive toward Nako, a remote village nestled above 11,000 ft. En route, you’ll stop at Khab Sangam, where the Spiti and Sutlej rivers meet — a powerful sight of natural merging forces. Reach Nako by evening and unwind in this peaceful village.
Stay: Nako
Day 4: Nako to Kaza — Monasteries & Ancient Mysteries
After visiting the peaceful Nako Lake, we hit the road toward Kaza, stopping at key cultural gems along the way. Visit Gue Monastery, known for its 500-year-old preserved monk mummy, followed by the spiritually rich Tabo Monastery — often referred to as the “Ajanta of the Himalayas.” Later, take in the views from Dhankar Monastery, dramatically built on a cliff. Arrive in Kaza, the main town of Spiti, by evening.
Stay: Kaza (homestay)
Day 5: Exploring Langza, Komic & Hikkim — Life at the Roof of the World
Today is all about height, quiet, and slow travel. We’ll visit Langza, known for fossil hunting and the giant Buddha statue; Komic, the world’s highest motorable village; and Hikkim, where you can send a postcard from the highest post office on Earth. Return to Kaza in the evening to explore local cafes and shops for traditional Spitian crafts.
Stay: Kaza
Day 6: Kaza to Chandratal — Bridges, Passes & A Night Under the Stars
An early start takes us to Key Monastery, a working monastery that looks like it’s carved into the mountain itself. Then drive over Chicham Bridge, one of the highest in Asia. Stop for lunch at Losar, the last village before Kunzum Pass. Later, cross Kunzum La at over 15,000 ft, and descend to Chandratal Lake, a moon-shaped lake surrounded by barren mountains. Camp near the lake for a night sky you won’t forget.
Stay: Campsite near Chandratal
Day 7: Chandratal to Manali — Scenic Drive Through High Altitudes
Watch the sunrise over Chandratal, then begin your drive back toward Manali. Make stops at Chacha-Chachi Dhaba (a travelers' favourite for warm food in the coldest places), Chhatru, and Koksar where your mobile network comes back to life. Cross the Atal Tunnel, India’s engineering marvel, and reach Manali by evening. Relax and enjoy a bonfire if the weather allows.
Stay: Manali
Day 8: Manali to Delhi/Chandigarh — Trip Wrap-up
Spend your final morning shopping or grabbing a relaxed brunch at Mall Road. After check-out, begin the return journey to Delhi or Chandigarh. This marks the end of your journey — but the start of your memories.
